Own the Record, Rent Nothing

9 September 2026 · 2 min read · Periplus

Renting your customer record is a mistake. The convenience isn't worth what it costs on the day you want to leave.

Per-seat software charges you for growing. Hire someone and the bill goes up. Keep them for three years and it goes up every month of those three years. The sting isn't the number. It's that the record of every customer you've ever had sits behind a login that somebody else can price, change, or close.

Purser is owned outright. It runs on a Postgres database that's yours, on your own machine or on a hosted account in your name that we run for you. Either way the keys are yours, there's no seat to rent, and there's no switch we can flip.

What you keep

The math

The homepage has a calculator for this. The rate on it is a stand-in, because your real one is worse than any number we'd pick. Put your seats and your months in and watch the two panes drift apart. One is a bill that renews forever. The other doesn't move, because you already own the thing.

$6,912Eight seats for three years at a sample rate of $24 a seat a month. Example rate, from the calculator on the homepage.

What you can do without us

The one-time figure isn't small, and you'll know it before you sign. It doesn't climb when you hire, and what it buys is yours the way your laptop is yours.

Owning software also means you can choose not to call us. Some businesses will take the export and run the desk themselves for good, and we'll never hear from them again. We'd rather sell to people who could leave than rent to people who can't.

Bring your seat count and your renewal date. The one-time figure is in writing before the call ends.
